Fire Safe FAQs
What is the largest safe ever built?
The largest safe ever built could arguably be said to be the Great Pyramids. Designed to protect the Pharaoh and his entourage, the Great Pyramids took years to design and build and cost countless lives and money to complete. But even the pyramids were not spared by either time or theft. Even the best safes can be cracked given the time and the desire. Today, America’s Fort Knox is a modern example or a very large safe that has yet to be cracked. But on a long enough timeline, it too will become obsolete.
What is a concealment device?
A concealment device is a sort of safe used to fool would-be thieves. Rather than having any actual lock or security device, a concealment device relies on stealth to keep items safe. Perhaps the most popular stereotype of a concealment device is a hollowed out book sitting on a shelf amongst other books. Other forms include empty aerosol canisters, candles, and even coins. During the First World War, messages were often hidden in emptied out rifle casings which were completely inconspicuous on a battlefield. A concealment device could be any inconspicuous item in which something could be hidden.
What is safecracking?
Safecracking is the art of forcing entry into a locked container through a variety of methods. Brute force, chemical jarring, auto-dialers, radiological methods, and just plain guessing the combination are all methods used to force entry into safes. For as long as there have been safes, there have safecrackers. As technology advances, so does the criminals toolkit. No safe is foolproof, at least not for long thanks to these intrepid criminals who relish both the reward and the challenge of their black-market profession.
